DBM earns “Utah’s Contractor of the Year” for 2002 Job Location: SR 189 Provo Canyon Scenic Highway, Provo, UT Project Owner: Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Project Description: DBM Contractors, Inc. earned the 2002 “Contractor of the Year” award from Utah’s Department of Transportation at its annual Engineering and Awards banquet in Salt Lake City. The award recognizes DBM’s work to blend slope stabilization work into the natural landscape on the SR-189 Highway in Provo Canyon, Utah. As part of the master plan of this highway improvement, Utah citizens insisted that increasing the safety and capacity of the highway not detract from the natural beauty of the area along this scenic route. In addition to the prestigious ”Contractor of the Year” award, the DBM team was awarded a $200,000 incentive for exceeding the aesthetic requirements of matching the unique sculptured shotcrete surfaces to the existing rock geology. In the $6.5 million design/build project, DBM led a team of engineers and subcontractors who verified and significantly reinforced approximately 166,000 square feet of slope stabilization and designed and built the carved and painted shotcrete facing alongside the highway. Other team members on the project included: CemRock Landscapes with Jolly Miller Naturalistic Habitats (Shotcrete Subcontractor), Golder Associates (Earth Retention Engineer), J.M. Williams & Associates (Structural Engineer), and Blake McCutchan Design (Landscape Architect). |
